About the Club

The Geography & Wildlife Club at Namiryango Senior Secondary School is a student-centred learning and service platform that connects classroom knowledge with the real world. It encourages learners to explore the physical environment, understand people and places, appreciate Uganda's natural heritage, and take practical responsibility for environmental care.

Geography helps learners understand relationships between people, land, climate, water, settlements and economic activity. Wildlife learning builds appreciation for animals, plants, habitats and biodiversity. Together, these areas help learners become observant, informed, environmentally responsible and community-minded citizens.

Main Objectives

  • Strengthen understanding of maps, direction, scale, weather, climate, landforms, drainage, settlements and human-environment relationships.
  • Promote awareness of Uganda's wildlife, ecosystems, national parks, wetlands, forests and other natural resources.
  • Develop observation, questioning, data collection, recording, teamwork, presentation and problem-solving skills.
  • Encourage conservation practices such as tree care, responsible waste handling, water protection and keeping the school environment clean.
  • Connect Geography topics to local issues, including land use, transport, population, urbanisation, flooding, soil erosion and climate change.
  • Build leadership, discipline, confidence, public speaking and responsible citizenship through learner-led projects.
  • Encourage respect for nature, animal welfare, cultural heritage and the sustainable use of resources.

What We Do

Exploring the world through observation, inquiry, and action.

Signature Projects

Hands-on initiatives that make a real difference in our school and community.

Our School Environment Map

Learners map key school features and identify opportunities for cleaner, greener, and safer surroundings.

One Learner, One Environmental Action

Each member practises and reports on one manageable conservation action they can do daily.

School Biodiversity Register

Learners document selected plants and commonly observed birds or insects without disturbing them.

Waste and Water Watch

A supervised audit of litter hotspots and water-use habits, followed by practical recommendations.

Know Uganda's Natural Heritage

Displays and presentations about Uganda's regions, landscapes, protected areas, and wildlife.

Community Geography Project

Study one local issue—such as drainage, road use, or soil erosion—and present evidence-based suggestions.
